James Otis Ellis, Sr. was born in Barnstable on April 4, 1938.  He was an 11th generation Barnstable native.  He grew up in Barnstable Village and continued his family's 111 year tradition of blacksmithing in the village.  This is the longest record in the United States!

For 44 years, Mr. Ellis, Sr. continued the ancient and honorable craft of blacksmithing, ensuring that the past was preserved into the future.  He, in turn, has passed the craft onto future generations.

One of Mr. Ellis’ apprentices, Marc, is now the dedicated curator of the blacksmith shop.  He volunteers his time out of pure passion.

Marc is a skilled blacksmith who proudly demonstrates and promotes the art of blacksmithing.  He crafts both traditional pieces and unique custom commissions.  Marc is especially known for his handcrafted collectible Christmas ornaments, which have become a beloved annual tradition.
