Joseph J. Berlandi 1939-2025
BHS President and Board Member
It is with great sadness we announce that the President of Barnstable Historical Society, Joseph J. Berlandi, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.
Joe joined the board in 2014, served as Treasurer 2016-19, and President in 2020-22 and from 2024-2025. He was an enthusiastic and generous leader of BHS. Joe led the BHS through the Covid shutdown, provided us with legal advice, secured CPC funds for the BHS to repair and renovate the Phinney-Jones House and so much more. Some may remember the Italian Dinner Fundraiser which highlighted Joe’s famous sauce! The Board and members of the Society are ever grateful to all he contributed not only to the BHS, but to the Barnstable Community.
Joe’s family has kindly designated memorial gifts in his memory be made to BHS. In response to this the board will establish the Joseph J. Berlandi Building Fund to carry out Joe’s vision for the campus at 3087 Main Street to ensure the many historical artifacts will be housed, preserved and displayed for generations to come.
We will miss the sparkle in his eyes and his warm smile. We have lost a treasured friend.
