The NEW BHS Logo incorporates a boat design by former BHS President Alexander Crane (1904-1953):

The boat on the new BHS logo was created by Alexander Crane (1904-1953), a BHS President in the late 1940s and early 1950s.  Alexander moved to Barnstable in the early 1940s, when he married Mary Hinckley Hutchings (1914-2007) of "Packet Mail" (2772 Main Street).  Alexander was an artist working in many media: watercolor, wood block prints, weavings and pottery (AlexanderCranePainting.com). He was an enthusiastic supporter of local history and genealogy, and was described in the local press as "so full of life and vitality and so interested in the history of our land," "full of ... enthusiasm for whatever line of work he undertakes."
